COVID-19 SAFETY MEASURES

I have completed a Risk Assessment Training Course with ISM and have drawn up a Risk Assessment for my teaching space.

As rules have been relaxed in wider society, I have stopped asking teenage and adult pupils to wear masks.  Where a pupil wishes to continue to wear a mask,  I will  also wear a mask when I am working with that individual.

I am continuing to follow these procedures with all pupils:

  • My teaching space is triple aspect and easy to keep well-ventilated. Three windows are always open and on hot days we often leave the door open too.

  • I sanitise the piano and all touch points between pupils.

  • There is a separate coat stand for pupils to hang coats and bags, and hand sanitiser is provided at the door.

  • I have access to two instruments which means I do not need to share the instrument with the pupil to play duets or demonstrate.  With younger pupils, it is often necessary to come closer to them to help them focus or understand what they need to do.  If parents are concerned about this, I am happy to wear a mask when working with their child.

  • Pupils bring their own books and pencils to the lesson. We avoid sharing resources as much as possible.

  • I ask pupils who become ill with Covid to switch to digital tuition if they are well-enough to do so. Likewise, if I become infected, I will teach digitally if at all possible.

If the Covid situation degenerates significantly, I will keep a regular check on the Scottish Government guidance  and also consider the advice provided by the Incorporated Society of Musicians and the Musicians Union.
